MATERIALS TIP: Is an item not showing up in your render? Go to your Live BD on the materials tab, and then just click-drag the material you want to the object you want in the scene. WOW! Here is what my menu looks like with 1 of my scenes loaded into it. This slaughters the options built into Daz. Take a moment to check out the powerful editing options for your materials, shaders, and textures in Octane. This is a simple process, and is just a 1 button click under the preferences tab. Since Octane is not Iray, and most of my content was orignially made with iray materials, I will have to import and convert my materials from iray to octane if I want them to look okay. So, let me render 2 of the same image and compare the results and speed. Iray doesn’t seem very efficient with render speeds, thus its not great for rendering hundreds of images for an animation. Even with my nice system, animation requires a lot of power. In some of my more complex scenes, it has taken up to 14 hours to render a 5 second animation. One of the things that excites me is the ability to do animations using octane. The options are pretty simple to navigate and straight forward. This render engine is pretty powerful and has lots of options. Once you pen the panel, you can place it where ever you want in your user interface. Once you install your Octane plug-in for Daz, you can find the newly installed content under the panel menu. The paid versions makes use of 2 or more on board gpu. Thankfully the Daz plug-in is free, yay! The FREE version of the Octane engine is limited to rendering using 1 GPU, which is just fine for someone like me. As someone who enjoys 3d as a hobby I won’t want to break the bank on a render engine (no matter how good it is). There are paid options for this plug-in which can be rather pricey, however, that is more tailored toward professional studios and people doing some serious work. My System at a quick glance: 2080ti, 64g ddr4, i9core, m.2 storage If you install the plug-in and get a message that the plug-in is NOT supported anymore, you downloaded the wrong one. If the version you download isnt stable and doesn’t work, uninstall it and try a different version. Url for download: – at the time of this review there were a few options. More in-depth users will no doubt conduct their own more hardcore drill down. I’ve been told that Octane is up to 10 times faster than iray, so I can’t resist the desire to give it a try. As much as I love iray, I want something faster to enable me to better process animations.
